Autism Treatment in India Using Stem Cells

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a serious and incurable group of disorder of neural development that affects approximately 70 million people globally. This disorder usually affects people by impairing their communication skills and ability to socially interact with others. People with autism may exhibit restricted and repetitive behaviour.

Autism is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The disorder affects the information processing ability of the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organise. It is not understood yet how this occurs. Synaptic dysfunction is a strongly suspected cause of autism.

There has been no complete “cure” found for the condition, but there are a number of therapeutic techniques that can be implemented to increase the quality of life and independent functioning of people with autism. Speech therapy or behavioral interventions can help children with autism gain self-care, social and communication skills.

One alternative form of autism treatment is stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy is a relatively new approach to the autism treatment and is based on the fact that these cells are equipped to influence metabolism, the immune system as well as help in restoring cells and damaged tissues.

Stem cell therapy is becoming a beacon of hope for autism treatment. One of the places where it is possible to get stem cell autism treatment in India is NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute located in Mumbai. NeuroGenBSI are pioneers in the field of stem cell research and therapy and have provided stem cell therapy for autism to several patients. 90 percent of these patients experienced mild to significant improvements in their symptoms as a result of stem cell therapy.

Autism treatment through stem cell therapy works by transplanting stem cells into the areas which are responsible for the regulation of memory, concentration, speech and attention i.e. the areas which are damaged in an autistic person’s brain. Stem cells can apparently stimulate blood and oxygen flow to the brain; replace damaged neurons and the formation of new arteries. It is hypothesized that the inserted cells will acquire the properties of the surrounding cells and restores the grey and white matter in the brain. That will ultimately result in the improvement of neurological symptoms of autism and an increase in the intellect of the individual.
