What is Muscular Dystrophy and Treatment Available For it?

Muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder that weakens the muscles which help the movement of the body. The patients with muscular dystrophy do not have the ability to control their body and muscles like normal people. The condition is genetic, and people are born with the condition. The disorder is not contagious. Overtime, the muscles weaken, and the individual will eventually lose up to all the strength that is needed to stand or get up. Muscular dystrophy is a group of 30 or more inherited diseases. It appears in infancy or in early childhood. Some other types of muscular dystrophies appear in the middle age as well. Several forms of muscular dystrophy affect patients differently.

There is no cure for the disease and treatments with medicines and drugs and surgeries cannot help the condition. Stem cell therapy has emerged as the best way to treat muscular dystrophy. The muscular dystrophy stem cell therapy is offered at NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute in Mumbai, India where you can see how successful the doctors and experts have been with their patients. Stem cells can help the patient in several ways and get him/her to perform several tasks which are needed in daily life. Stroke stem cell treatment has also been
beneficial for hundreds of stroke patients.

Role of stem cells in muscular dystrophy

Stem cells come with the ability to revive the damaged cells in several parts of the body. They can heal and repair the cells that are not working normally and have stopped functioning. The stem cells regenerate new cells that can move to the damaged area when transmitted into the body and begin functioning immediately. At NGBSI, there is the use of autologous stem cells which are procured from the bone marrow of the hip bone. Being the bone marrow of the patient, there is no ethical issue with it. Stem cells remodel the tissues easily and reduce inflammation once they enter the body. They can even prevent death of the cells. Repairs and renewal process takes place to restore damaged cells. Procured from the patient’s own body, there are no chances of rejecting the stem cells by the body. This makes it easy to treat and improve the condition of the patient.

Along with stem cell therapy, NGBSI provides the neurorehabilitation therapy.
This is to assist in movement restoration. With physiotherapy, the patient can increase muscle strength, coordination, and balance. It can reduce spasticity and increase motion. Overall improvement can be seen in the patient with speech, talk, and communication.
